Pediatric Physical & Occupational Therapy in Chicago Loop, Lakeview, and Glenview
Many children can exhibit mild to moderate limitations that may affect their participation in play, school, and sports. These issues can also affect a child's ability to sit still and focus in the classroom, as well as increase their risk for a sedentary lifestyle and pain later in life. Our physical therapists and occupational therapists can identify and address specific gross motor limitations, and our occupational therapists can identify and address fine motor coordination and visual motor integration difficulties.
Parents may observe postural issues, difficulty with gross motor activities and lack of coordination such as:
- Slumping each time he or she sits on the floor
- Avoiding participation in physical activities
- Difficulty keeping up with the other children on the playground
- Poor coordination or clumsiness
- Complaints of “aches and pains”
- Displaying excessive exertion during physical activities
- Having difficulty sitting still or moving around excessively in the classroom
- Displays slow or messy handwriting
- Having trouble regulating energy and getting anxious in specific environments and situations
Our physical and occupational therapists work with many patients with complex movement impairments and have a unique perspective on maximizing a child’s participation in activities in the home and classroom.
Following an evaluation, we will provide recommendations for therapy, if appropriate, and suggestions to parents on activities to perform at home to support the child’s optimal physical and sensory development.
